Bruno’s at Tanjong Katong Road

When someone mentions that “East is where all the awesome food is” or “you’ll never run out of (good) food to eat at Katong area” — I have to agree with them!

Call me bias, but I’ve been living here in this area for the close to 7 years now, and I never tire of trying to find something new, unique, special to eat makan here in the East, be it along Marine Parade, (Upper) East Coast Road, Tanjong Katong Road, Joo Chiat Road, Siglap area…

Many of my blogposts are pretty centred around this area too, do take a look or search for “Maekhong Thai Cuisine”, “Jai Thai”, “The Humble Loaf”, “Al Forno East Coast”, “Penny University”, “112 Katong” etc.

Today’s post is about another gem that we chanced upon while walking along Tanjong Katong Road. We’ve noticed that they are always packed, service is always busy and to top it all off, Italian food. Who doesn’t like Italian food, huh? Yum.

We’ve been to Bruno’s a few times now, so the photos and the write up is a collection of the past couple of visits.

Mmmm.. Warmed or toasted sourdough bread served to prep is up for the tasty food!

And then some pretty amazing appetisers to whet your appetite!

Juicy, juicy oysters with fresh lemon and tabasco sauce. SLURP UP! However, nothing beats the fresh gigantic oysters we had at the Sydney Fish Market, which I have a dedicated post on it!

Sometimes, Bruno’s have special menus during certain weeks, like this one:

The Meat Platter was really good. It came with a mix of cold cuts: Mortadella, Coppa, Parma Ham, Salami and White Ham, with a small bowl of cut olives drenched in olive oil.

One of my favourites is the Parma Ham and Melon starter. Ooh. Pretty generous too.

If you don’t feel like ham, or you prefer something that’s vegetarian, there’s always the bruschetta.

Mussels seem to be a favourite here as well and you can order a mountain for your starters.

These are some of the appetisers or starters that we’ve tried before either with friends or on our own. Very decent and tasteful.

A quick snapshot of Bruno’s menu, and a selection of some pastas.

Once I ordered the Linguine with Crabmeat in Pink Sauce with Basil, and that quickly became a favourite.

Looking at the above photos make me want to go back there again and order a plate! I am salivating as I type this!

Other pastas that I’ve tried also include the Squid Ink Prawn as well as the Seafood Pasta in Tomato/ Pink Sauce. Unfortunately I don’t have snaps of them. However the Ravioli is really quite good and I think this is the one with Hokkaido scallops.

The next pic, unfortunately I can’t quite remember what it’s name, but it is a chicken breast dish. I do recall that we didn’t find this one particularly good, because the meat was a little too dry and it was very salty. VERY.

From what we know, Bruno’s changes their specials menu every 2-3 weeks, and also dependent on the customers’ feedback on whether certain dishes are their favourites and they’d like to see it more often. A glimpse of the week’s specials:

We sampled a couple of the choices on the board that day, one being the Duck Breast with Raspberry Sauce and the other the Seafood Bouillabaisse. Both were indeed superb.

Look at the amazing, captivating colours of the plated Duck Breast mains, and the generous portion of seafood in the bouillabaisse – cod fish, mussels, squid, clams and prawns!

However, based on the feedback, the duck was a little dry and the raspberry sauce was tad too sweet. The raspberry sauce was overpowering and somehow shadowed the duck breast.

The seafood bouillabaisse transported me back to April where we escaped to paradise on earth – Maldives – for an anniversary getaway. Reminded me very much of the bouillabaisse that I had there (about 5x).

Indeed, we had some wine to go along with our dinner(s) but this is the only snapshot I got from one of the many meals we had there. It was an Australian red.

What’s a hearty Italian dinner without an Italian dessert? 🙂 We ordered a Tiramisu to share, which was also on their specials’ board.

It was really quite good but I wished they hadn’t put too much of the chocolate sauce on it, which coated it too much with the cocoa flavour. Personally I felt that Al Forno’s was better and that is in another post found here: https://makanmusings.wordpress.com/2013/05/15/al-forno-east-coast/
